Disney’s Family Choice Award Winners

The prestigious and nationally-recognized Family Choice Awards are bestowed annually on high-quality products, services, and books by Family Magazine. Awards are given in a variety of categories, including special needs, eco-friendly, child and parent products and resources, technology, home and garden, and Howard Bollinger toys. Past recipients of the Family Choice Awards have included three Disney books: two cookbooks and Mindy Johnson’s “Tinkerbell: An Evolution.”

“The Disney Princess Cookbook” and “A Merry Christmas Cookbook” are both 2014 Family Choice Award winners. Each book features recipes from memorable Disney characters and stories. Both of these cookbooks are collaborations with the Disney Book Group and Disney Storybook Art Team. Written from the perspective of the Disney princesses, “The Disney Princess Cookbook” is full of recipes and tips from Ariel, Tiana, Merida, and other princesses. “A Merry Christmas Cookbook” has recipes inspired by Disney characters old and new. Family Choice Awards lists some recipe highlights, including pancakes from Rolly of “101 Dalmatians,” and candy from Princess Anna of “Frozen.”

Author Mindy Johnson of award-winning “Tinkerbell: An Evolution” is a creative consultant to the Walt Disney Studios. In a January 2014 interview with Tammy Turner of “The Tiara Talk Show,” Johnson explained that her quest to understand the evolution of Tinkerbell as a Disney character began when she was given a binder of concept art related to Peter Pan more than seven years ago. As she investigated what she called “fairy art,” she found herself wondering whether or not the artwork was possibly early design concepts for Tinkerbell herself. This ultimately led to a fascinating journey that included a fruitful collaboration with Walt Disney Studio’s Animation Research library, interviews with many individuals instrumental in Tinkerbell’s development, and research revealing there was not one- but three- models for Tinkerbell. Her award-winning book is the result of her comprehensive investigation into one of Walt Disney’s most famous and beloved characters.

In addition to the Family Choice Awards, the companion website of the same name also reviews other high-quality books, products, and services. Many are produced by Disney artists, innovators, and authors. One example of high praise came from Frances Brokaw, who gave author Charles Solomon’s “The Art of the Disney Golden Books” a glowing review and claimed she could not stop opening it. Disney’s high quality and attention to detail is definitely leaving an imprint on their review team.
